Midweek Peek into my Yard!

Hi Folks, If you are new to the blog, Welcome. If you have been here a while you probably won’t be surprised that we have some visitors to our little piece of paradise. Join me while we are converting a suburban lawn into a biodiverse habitat, all the while Listening for the Sounds of Summer.

This guy and its mate came wandering by just this morning. Notice the wonky bill. A bit of a cross cut. They fed within twenty yards of me seemingly without a care.

This little one left the nest located above our drain pipe a yard from the front door and after a moment of rest and reflection it flew off. Happy trails.

Good morning dove. I see you there.

Butterfly on the phlox and some droplets after one of our rare rainfalls this year.

Fawn checking out the oxeye daisy growing in the neighbors recently disturbed lawn. No it is not the Guy Next-Doors lawn.

Wow! Monarch, posing in the sunshine on a pink coneflower.

Milkweed! I am still waiting for my first monarch caterpillar.

This guy is gorgeous though I cannot identify exactly what it is. I guess it is a wasp. Maybe a yellow jacket. They are the most common. Another insect that gets a bad rap. They are actually beneficial insects who feed on insects farmers and gardeners consider actual pests. Though these guy do become quite bothersome later in the summer when their numbers peak and they are trying to share your favorite sweet beverage with you. Time to get a a drink cover, and let them Bee. Though its not a bee it’s a wasp, actually.

And if you don’t have a bird bath in your yard. I highly recommend you get one. Not just for the animals but for the hours of entertainment they bring.

What a week! Thanks for checking out my work. Please take a moment to subscribe. News and articles will drop into your in box and your support is greatly appreciated. Check out all my work at TerryJohnsonAuthor.com
